Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/26/2026. Preferred Experience: Floor care and maintenance experience. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (other than blueprint reading) Use of Measuring Instruments Technical Practices Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: You must be able to do a considerable amount of walking, standing, stooping, bending, and crawling. Must be able to work in congested areas and in tight, cramped, or awkward positions. You must be able to work under and inside a variety of equipment. You may be required to carry, set up ladders, and work on ladders and scaffolding. May be required to lift or move heavy equipment or furniture up to 50 pounds unassisted. Occasionally, you will lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other coworkers. You will be exposed to environmental cleaning chemicals, which may be irritating. May be required to wear clothing and wear respirator in the performance of duties. Working Conditions: Work may be performed indoors or outdoors. Majority of the work is completed in patient care buildings, you must be ever alert to the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and fellow employees. Indoor work generally is in areas with adequate heat/air conditioning, light, and ventilation. Duties may also involve working in tight, cramped, wet, dry, and dusty areas. When working outdoors, you may be exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, loud noises, chemicals, dust, and dirt. May occasionally receive minor cuts, scrapes, bruises, and electrical shocks. You may be exposed to irritations from strong chemical solutions. Mishandling of equipment, tools, and tasks may result in more serious injuries or destruction of government and/or personal property. Proper safety procedures and the use of standard safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toe shoes to avoid possible hazards in the work area are a requirement. The position may require work on weekends, odd tours of duty, and to be potentially called in during emergencies, based on the hospital and service's needs.
